Anticalins^® are sufficiently distinct from antibodies that their development and commercialization is not reliant upon patents claiming monoclonal antibodies.

Pieris exclusively owns the Anticalin^® patent estate, which offers complete freedom to operate outside the patent boundaries defined by conventional antibody products. The estate currently consists of a total of ten patent families, whilst key patents have already been granted both in the US and in Europe.

In addition the company owns a number of registered trademarks that relate to its business.
